Your favourite West Ham United CULT-HERO, and why...
Think mine is still Samassi ABOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUU...

We bought him for hardly anything from Cannes or some financially-struggling, lowly French club like that as back-up to Hartson and Kitson...

No-one had ever heard of him before and, although he wasn't at the club too long, he really made an impact (usually positively) in his relatively few appearances for us...

I remember him scoring TWICE against Barnsley in a 6-0 win; he linked-up play really well and had decent skill and a good football brain...

I remember him scoring against Leeds in a 3-0 win as well - loved his SICK PARROT goal celebration with his tongue poked-out and arms flapping about...

He was prone to lose his temper as well - I remember him kicking Colin CALDERWOOD in the shins when he got sent-off away at Spurs...

Think he had a clash with Martin 'MONKEY HEAD' Keown as well in a League Cup tie Vs Arsenal at our gaff...

Yeah, there have been many other CULT-HEROES who've stayed much longer and probably contributed far more to the team in the long-run but SAMASSI is one that really sticks in my mind - a real character; unknown and signed for hardly anything... A quick flash in the pan and then disappeared back into obscurity... Of course, our chant for him was brilliant as well...

What about you CUNTS?!?!...

ABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...

Quite a few down the years, Mark ward for one. Some of the goals he scored in the 85/86 season
were gems. Oxford away, Man Utd at home. Little warrior.

I liked that Mad Dog memory selection, but you have to add the screamer in the 2-0 Highbury win, right in front of our "packed" Clock End.

I wrote packed like that as it was the first time we'd been in an all seater Highbury, so it was all a bit weird....shit....but sunny.

The very same day that, before the goals, was first rescued by the father of a poster on here, united we stand's dad, who started the "ONE TREVOR BROOKING!" headbutt dance/chant, whatever you want to call it.

In fact, I also nominate united we stand's old man as another genuine West Ham cult hero. I was sat right next to him, by chance, not design, but am proud to say I was the first to join in.......after ages of thinking "what a loony!" like everyone else. He had the whole Clock End doing it in the end, and the gooners in their east side cracking up, not a clue how to respond, as always. ;-)

George PARRIS. Waich mpres primarily midfielder or even a winger in his youthside days.
He was always a combative.competitive player who was a much. more intelligent and tactically
aware young man. than most fans realised

Bernard Lama. Great goalie and I choose to believe the rumours he was fond of a bit of weed.

Gentile - wasn't George 'chicken' Parris mainly a left back not right back from what I recall of him?

Loved Ian Pearce. For a time he was absolute class. Thought he always gave his all, even up front.

That was the game that cemented me as a Hammer.

I hate to admit but as an 8 year old I was torn between West Ham, who my best mate supported, and Man Utd. I decided to let that game decide it for me and thankfully we won.

Abou wasn't very good though apart from maybe one or two games. I always find it interesting when people like Morley, Bishop and Martin Allen come up on these sorts of threads as I can remember large parts of their careers when they were slaughtered by the crowd.

George Parris

No one will ever take away from the feeling I had as an 11 year old boy who watched the build up to West Ham Utd Vs Bryan Robsons Man United back in the 1985/6 season that fateful Sunday on The Big Match.

A certain young George Parris (a youth product RB) was in line for his debut in a must win game as we pushed in making what was a title chasing season.

Georgie "takes no shit" Parris did indeed start at RB and make his 1st team debut live on TV alongside Parkes, Gale, Martin, Walford, Pike, Ward, Devonshire, Dickens, Cottee and McAvennie,

The game ended in a famous 2-1 victory with goals from Ward and Cottee after we went 0-1 down. George Parris was immense. Not only did he defend like a warrior, he was often seen maurading down the right flank bursting forward at every opportunity. The commentator Bryan Moore said "He has a bit of Billy Bonds in him" after one bone crunching tackle.

FUCKING LEGEND OF A PLAYER FOR US.

Ps. I was there at the Watford home game when he scored that 30 harder in the 92nd minute too....

UTTER FUCKING LEGEND

Keith Robson

Mental - remember someone trying to take him out on a midweek game - the guy missed and Robeson was in the clear for an attack on goal

He stopped, turned round and ran 10 yards to pile into the guy

The west ham way ish

Martin 'Mad Dog' Allen

My favourite memories of him were --

Kicking the shit out of the goalpost after Carlton Palmer had just scored against us.

Celebrating his opener against Charlton with a high-legged, comedy run down the touch line at Selhurst

Trying to reason with a supporter, that ran on the pitch and sat down in the centre circle, during the Anti-Bond Scheme era.

THAT fucking screamer vs Wimbledon in a tense cup night

too many to pick just one.
putting aside the obvious heroes my cult hero team would be

Laurie Lesley (Played with a built up boot one leg shorter through breaking it )
John (Muffin) Bond - kick like a mule
Julian Dicks - dirty bastard - but our dirty bastard
Andy Malcolm - a real hard man
Ginge Collins always puts himself on the line
Mad Dog Allen - Never new when he was beaten
Harry Blue Bottle Redknapp - sorry but he gave me much to laugh about when he was playing - open the gate!
John Moncur - Could play and foul with equal gusto!
Sammasi Abou - Almost a player but not quite
David Cross - Physco
